Wednesday’s Routine: Cleanse & Purge

How is it already Wednesday?

It just seemed like it was the weekend and now we are almost there again. The older I get, the faster time flies.

Purging the Fridge

Wednesday’s around here are all about purging. Our trash gets picked up on Thursday so Wednesday night, my husband takes the cans out. This means that Wednesday night is when I clean out the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. We keep a back up of our favorites and things we use often and go through fast. It sucks when you are in the middle of cooking dinner, need a half cup of EVOO, and only have 1/4 cup. While I am cleaning everything out, I add anything we need to our grocery list on Cozi and take note of anything that I need to use up or have in the freezer.

We have been using Cozi for like 10 years. It was really handy when we actually left the house because if one of us found ourselves at the store, we could pick up everything at the store without having to check-in. It is well worth the $10 a year. We also keep To-Do Lists and have lists for other things as well like a list for home depot, a list for online shopping, pretty much anything you can want. It also has a recipe box, though I don’t use that feature. I have tried but I like my recipes offline.

Cleansing Our Bodies

Wednesday is also a cleanse day for our bodies. I have been doing nutritionally supported intermittent fasting for almost 8 years. Again with the time thing. When my husband got furloughed and everything got locked down, my husband decided to start cleansing with me. Especially with Covid, our immune systems are so important right now. Autophagy, which happens during longer fasts, is a great way to help reset and regenerate the body, naturally boosting the immune system. It is also great for clearing the mind. We get A LOT done on Wednesdays. I like to travel on cleanse days too, it makes things sooooo easy.

Menu Planning

Meal planning is another Wednesday event. I have meal planned on and off in my life for years, but I have been consistent with it for a little over a year now. I started with planning 3 nights a week and now we have gotten a rhythm going.

Wednesday, since we cleanse, my daughter gets to pick what she wants to eat. Thursday, we ease back in with a vegetarian dinner. Friday is usually fish and I like to make a dessert. J handles dinner on Saturday. Sunday, my daughter picks what to cook and we’ll cook it together. On occasion, she’ll cook on Saturday with dad so we will either do leftovers or I will make something I have in the freezer for Sunday. Monday I usually make more of a comfort meal with multiple dishes. “Two-Times Tuesday” is when we clean out the fridge before the following purge day and then we begin again.

Putting A Bow On It: Ordering the Groceries

Right now, the Ralph’s right down the street from our house has free grocery pickup, so I end my Wednesday nights ordering our groceries for the week. I pull up my Cozi list on my phone and run down the list. It takes me maybe 15-20 minutes. I do check things off on Cozi, but I don’t delete them until after I have picked up the groceries. The downfall to ordering and picking them up, is that until I get them home and unpack them, I don’t know what, if anything is missing. I leave anything missing on Cozi and Friday morning when J runs his errands, he stops and picks up what we need. I am enjoying our system for now.
